Hello there everyone. Mio here! I just wanted to give an apology from both me and Dio about the inactivity on the Star Eaters end right now. I actually just moved in with him earlier this month, and there's been a lot of chaos and craziness involved in it all. We're not entirely settled into the change and there may be more changes happening again very soon which has us just as a gigantic mess. It is 100% my fault Star Eaters is in a drought, haha. So I'm really sorry!

As of right now, there are not any solid plans for any upcomings event. Dio will make a more in-depth news post in the future of plans he has in the works once he solidifies them. At the moment though, this is all on the backburner while we get home life situated.

Shoves that all of the way, however. RAFFLE ROLLS. This has been put off for way too long and we're so so so sorry. I know the suspense is murder omg.

For being giant beasts drifting through the vastness of space, Star Eaters are not lonely creatures! They love to stop and visit planets they pass by, dropping to the surface in their surface forms to get a sampling of the world's culture, cuisine, and more! Many of them pick up on cultural traditions from their favorite haunts, and spread them to other Star Eater friends.

There is one particular tradition that is beloved by many, many Star Eaters for it's charming night of dressing up in costumes - silly, spooky, and everything in between - and sharing gifts, sweets, and tricks with each other. The Night of Witches, All Hallow's Eve, or most commonly, Halloween!

In honor of this spooky fall holiday, we are celebrating with a month of events! Here’s what we have on our roster:

ART PROMPT

Draw or write about a Star Eater partaking in a Halloween themed activity - carving pumpkins, trying on costumes, trick-or-treating, etc - or an activity from an adjacent holiday such as Día de los Muertos!

Requirements

• Art submitted for the prompt must be at least flat colored, half body and include some kind of thematically appropriate prop or background
• writing must be at least 400 words
• you must upload to a website that clearly shows your username and the date/time of upload [No discord links!] Toyhou.se, Sta.sh, and the onsite website are all viable options! this goes for writing as well. please do not just submit a google docs version!
• You may use your own official star eaters, one of the NPCs, or another user's official star eater [with permission/open for gift art enabled] for this prompt

• one raffle ticket for each raffle

TRICK-OR-TREATING!

Along with our art prompt, we’re hosting a trick-or-treat event! Special Star Eaters will have a goodie for you to claim from them on their page! Knock on our seven NPCs’ doors to find a treat just for you! [hint: you can find the NPCs on gemini ‘s page!, check the notes tab!]

You can enter them using the two RAFFLE TICKET items, You can get the raffle ticket items randomly in the halloween goodie bags and as a reward for doing the prompt and completing the halloween collection! 

READ:

When you get your raffle ticket item you must OPEN IT to be entered into the raffle! Do not forget to do this before the raffle rolls on november 1st! tickets not opened after NOV 1st will no longer function.

opening these tickets functions the same way as opening a box, go to the item in your inventory, click on it, Then select it using the check box  under "source", then click "open box" and then "open"

If you get these items and don’t wish to partake in the raffle they can also be sold for 50 comet coins. 

COLLECTION

You see all those candy items you get from the goodie bags? Collect one of each to complete the halloween collection! You’ll receive a reward of a raffle ticket for each halloween raffle star eater as well as a special pet summoner item to get a special halloween version of one of the Star Eaters pets!

IMPORTANT NOTE: some of the items for the collection can be used for other things such as summoning halloween pets, be sure to claim the collection BEFORE using those items as using them is not reversible! Claiming the collection does not consume the items so you can use them afterwards!

I posted this in the server, but I realized it'd be a good idea to cross-post it to here as well! The mod team will try and do a better job in the future of reminding on-site about the end of upcoming raffles and events. Lorekeeper is not the most intuitive site ever, and so never fear reaching out to a mod for help/clarification on things! We're here to help as much as we can!! Also, as a small aside, I did want to remind everyone that whenever raffles are being hosted to make sure you submit a Prompt Claim! Simply uploading art/requirements to the correct areas on the site will not grant you an entry ticket. You absolutely must submit a claim in order to get a ticket! You also get Comet Coins (which can be used to buy more stuff on-site so big thumbs up 👍) whenever you submit your art to prompts, and so there's absolutely no reason not to!! We on the mod staff do all the hard parts, and you just have to give us a couple links! I want to make sure everyone's hard work is accounted for and people are given the right things! To even begin the set up of summoning a Heart Hog you will need to get a Festival Banner, the essential component to any Festival celebration! You might be able to ask an Admin of the website for one, surely they have a stash somehwere!

Other important updates!

Comet Coin changes

We are working hard on game balancing, this is a learning experience for us and based on the previous event I've learned a few things about the comet coin distribution!

The first change is to the Backgrounds bonus, we are experimenting with using a percentage scheme for the background bonus, this is Not guaranteed to remain and is experimental, but we'd like to better reward people for their time and effort on backgrounds for their pieces! this may make certain backgrounds worth less and certain ones worth much more based on the pieces context which is a factor that was not considered before.

We have also added a new middle tier for backgrounds! This middle tier will include semi detailed space backgrounds with clear effort put into making them but may not include as many details as would be required for a detailed background! Our team had struggled with classifying a lot of backgrounds during the previous event which may have lead to some reward inconsistencies, we hope that by adding another tier for these more middle ground looking backgrounds we will eliminate that for future events and general coin claiming!

The writing comet coin reward has also been updated! We now will be rewarding 0.5 CC per word instead of the previous 0.1CC, this is to make writing more worth it for those who don't wish to do artwork or prefer writing. The previous event we realized that the writing rewards seemed much too low compared to the rewards for drawings and we want to make that more balanced and fair to writers!

About the delay

last but not least I want to once again apologize for the delay in getting this event set up, I won't go into detail but I was unexpectedly out of commission for a couple of weeks and could not work on the event set up like I had planned. I am doing better now and things should run smoothly for the event! Thank you all for your patience and I hope you have fun with this mini event!

Post event reflection and feedback

We know that there were a few rocky patches with this first event, and we've learned a lot! Most of our team has never run an event like this before and we're all learning as we go! But I believe that overall, this event was a success!

Future plans and updates!

I, Dio the owner and creator of the site and species, have a very busy life currently, so please keep that in mind as we work on the site and make it fun for all! I'm currently a computer science student while also working full time, so my ability to work on Star Eaters and related projects is quite limited. This project is a passion of mine and I have no intention of ever letting it die or let life get in the way from working on it. However, I still must be realistic about my ability to do things and how fast though. That said, I do have a few announcements to share!

We are working on a TIMELINE for the Star Eaters development! I have every intention of polising up a timeline plan and creating a page for it. It may take some time however, so we ask for your patience! We want to be careful not to make promises we cannot keep. This is the main reason we don't currently have a public roadmap.

Valentines Day adopts are likely coming! I fully launched this site out of my own pocket, and since then monthly expenses for the site have increased, so I'm going to begin working on adopts and getting custom slots open! I'm working on Valentines Day adopts that will be uploaded on Februrary 13th. These will be available onsite and on toyhou.se, and they will be an auction with the starting bid of 35$ USD. [About how much my last server bill was! <3] For those of you who don't yet have a Star Eaters account, the adopt will come with an invite code to officialize them!

Customs will likely be avaliable starting in March. This is a tentative timeline, but I will likely begin offering monthly custom slots. The prices and details are currently TBA, but will likely have a base price based on the Star Eaters server costs for Februrary. Something to look forward to with customs: You will be allowed to ask for traits that do not exist yet! Details on how that will work will be in the upcoming customs post!

Our next opening is still TBD! Once we have completed our timeline page, the dates for our next openings will be announced. For now, we will continue to be invite only and invite codes will be available to users who purchase customs and adoptables from dio offsite! Our intention is not to make this site pay-to-play, so this will only be a temporary measure as we work through our growing pains in the beta. We will be working out other ways to obtain invite codes in the meantime. If you have any ideas feel free to submit those to our new feedback form detailed below!

Ko-fi support and MYO sales. We are considering the option of a kofi subscription and MYO sales to support the development of the site. While it's not guaranteed we will go this route yet, we would like to hear from you about your thoughts on this! We have a dedcated form for suggestions and feedback on that: THE KOFI FEEDBACK FORM IS HERE. 

Again, we would like to emphasize that we do not want this site to be pay-to-play! We will still have plenty of other ways to obtain MYOs and new Star Eaters without having to invest any real money! We are only considering the kofi option to allow users to help support us where they can and offset server costs coming out of dios own pocket! All feedback [positive, negative, or otherwise] will be seriously considered before we move forward with this decision.

February mini event

Our first seasonal pet will be revealed soon! We're working on a Valentines Day inspired pet, and plan for it to be available to obtain starting Februrary 14th! They'll be claimable via a scavenger hunt and a Valentines prompt that will run from Febuary 14th to the end of Februrary!  This mini event will only have one limited prompt with the special seasonal pet and bonus comet coins as it's prize! It will also feature a small scavenger hunt that will begin on the 14th where users can find hidden items which will include the seasonal pet and a few box items with goodies inside! More details on it will be posted closer to the event time!

New General feedback form!

The final announcement I'd like to share is that I've created a deadicated feedback form! This is to help keep our feedback organized in one place. This form will replace the suggestions channel in the discord! We hope this will not only keep us more organized but also allow people who do not wish to be in the discord a chance to give us feedback and suggestions on the website! If you have made a suggestion or posted feedback in the suggestions channel on discord, please feel free to repost it on the form! I'm a pretty forgetful person [Got the adhd hehe] so it would help me a lot if the feedback was reposted so I have an easier time looking back on it! We will soon be making a UI update to the navbar so there will include a permanent direct link to the feedback form!

A little personal note from me, the owner, I want to thank you all so sosososo much for making this event and our first beta opening a success! We could not have done it without all of you! I'm so stoked to see this community make a comeback after the hardships we faced due to the collapse of deviantart and just in general not knowing where to go from there. I am so glad my gamble on making this website and putting my freetime and money into it has paid off and people enjoy the site and species! I hope that one day we'll grow to be something I can work on fulltime. I would also like to personally thank the staff team who have given their freetime and effort for this project as well! They deserve all of the support! Please give them lots of thank yous as well!! :> I can't wait to see where this project takes us from here! This journey is only just beginning and we have so many awesome plans and fun stuff ahead!
